Becoming Warhol
I’ve been carying around this image for about 10 years now so I thought I’d scan and share it.
It’s my favorite picture of Warhol. It’s a younger Andy who is about to fully understand and embrace his character as an artist. He wasn’t the “famed” Andy Warhol at this point, it was 2 years after his debut as a “pop” artist, but he knew this path would change his life forever.
What’s interesting about Andy is he went from making art to being Art. Here he is in the studio (shopping mart) buying Coke, Brillo and Campbell’s soup. All of these items were household names and in just a few years after this photo so was Andy Warhol.
Why so serious Andy?
